Amazon announced that Prime members will get updates to their benefits. This is a challenge to music streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify.
Members of Prime will be able to stream even more music than before.
100 Million Songs Available Now With Prime
The company said that Prime members will now have access to a full music catalog with 100 million songs, up from 2 million songs before. They will also be able to listen to most of the top podcasts on the service without ads. The Amazon Music app is also getting a makeover. A new feature called “Podcast Previews” will let customers listen to short clips and find new favorites.
There are podcasts with no ads from CNN, NPR, The New York Times, and ESPN, among others. There are also new Amazon Exclusive shows like “MrBallen Podcast: Strange, Dark, and Mysterious Stories” that don’t have ads. “Suspect: Vanished in the Snow,” “COLD Season Three: The Search for Sheree,” “Killer Psyche Daily,” “I Hear Fear,” narrated by Oscar-nominated actress Carey Mulligan, and a weekly bonus episode of “The Old Man and the Three,” hosted by former NBA player JJ Redick.
Use The Amazon Music App
Prime members will need to use the main Amazon Music app to get to all of the music. The app also has standard features, such as the ability to play any artist, album, or playlist in shuffle mode, stream personalized playlists, download songs to listen to when you don’t have internet access, and more. Prime members won’t be able to stream music whenever they want unless they upgrade to a paid plan.
Amazon will still offer Amazon Music Unlimited. The service, which costs $8.99 a month or $89 a year, will give users access to all songs on-demand in HD (16-bit/44.1 kHz) and UHD 24-bit/44.1 to 192 kHz) quality on all devices.
Amazon raised the price of its Prime membership from $119 to $139 last year, which is why these changes are happening. Amazon seems to be trying to make up for this price hike by adding more value now. They’ve already added a free membership to Grubhub+, and now they’ve added a much bigger music library and podcasts without ads.
