How Cash App Works

Sending money

You can send money to someone with just their email address, phone number, or $Cashtag. The name that each Cash App user sets up in their app profile is the $Cashtag.

After you put in the person’s information, the app will ask you your preferred funding source. The money can come from your Cash App balance, a bank account you linked to Cash App, or a credit card. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover are all accepted by Cash App.

It’s free to send money from your Cash App balance or your bank account. There is a 3% transaction fee if you send a payment with a credit card.

You can send up to $1,000 in a 30-day period. If you verify your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security number, you can send more.

Receiving money

When you receive money, it goes into your Cash App account first. From there, you can move it to a bank account or debit card that you’ve linked to Cash App.

A standard deposit shows up in your bank account within one to three business days. An instant deposit to your debit card, on the other hand, happens right away, but you have to pay a rush fee of between 0.5% to 1.75%.

You can also ask for a Cash Card if you don’t want to send money to a bank account. The Cash Card is a Visa debit card that lets you buy things online or in stores with Cash App funds. Using the Cash Card at an ATM costs between $2 – $2.50, and the ATM servicer may also charge a fee.

Cash App Mobile Banking

You can use Cash App banking to deposit more than just money from friends. For example, you can deposit your direct deposit from work or a tax refund check.

For the banking feature to work, you have to order a Cash App card. Setting up direct deposits to your Cash App account can get you paid up to two days faster than direct deposits to another bank account.

Cash App Investing

With Cash App Investing, you can buy stocks and ETFs with as little as $1 and pay no commission fees. Only people who live in the U.S. and are 18 or older can use this feature. To join, you have to give Cash App your full name, date of birth, Social Security number, address, and information about where you work.

Cryptocurrencies can also be used with Cash App. The app lets you buy or sell Bitcoin. You can also send Bitcoin to an external wallet.

How Safe Is Cash App?

The Cash App website says that payment information is encrypted and sent through secure servers.

You should take some extra steps to make sure that no one else can use your phone to send money without your permission. Cash App suggests putting a password on your phone and turning on the in-app security lock, which will make each transaction require a PIN, Touch ID or Face ID.

Also, keep in mind that if you send money to someone else’s Cash App, you likely won’t be able to get it back. Because of this, you should be extra careful when sending money to people you don’t know, especially if you want to buy something. A common scam is for sellers to say they only accept payments through Cash App and then disappear before sending the item.

Someone calling or texting you and saying they’re from Cash App customer service could also be a scam. There have been cases of people pretending to be Cash App support reps calling in to ask users to set up a new Cash App account to fix a problem, then proceeding to scam users of funds.
