I just saw a BMO ad about their savings bonus.
I Thought, wow! Let me check that out.
Am SO, SO glad I read these reviews first.
Thanks to all who commented, I have been spared getting scammed.
I will NEVER do business with them.
I opened a smart advantage checking account with BMO Harris after clicking one of their online ads in April 2029 because they promised $300 bonus. I fulfilled each and every requirement and time limits they set. Over 130 days passed since. Numerous calls to their ‘customer service’ line, emails has not produced a result. The BMO Harris bank lied to me to bring my business to them. They promised bonus. They have not delivered. No response why they have not from the customer service line.
Avoid BMO Harris bank if you want the bonus because they do not honor their word.
I’m surprised that they gave you no reason for not paying the bonus. When they cheated me out of my bonus, they DID gave me a reason. Their business checking bonus in summer 2019 required an “opening deposit” of $5000. When they stalled me taking a couple weeks to get the account open, the branch rep then told me to make my FIRST deposit as my “opening deposit” of $5000 and assured me that it would count as the opening deposit required in that promo I deposited the 5000 immediately. Then after they had my $5000 for 90 days and my compliance with all other requirements (on line banking, 10 electronic transactions etc) they decided it would not count as the opening deposit even though it was the very first deposit and was made pursuant to bank instructions. While I argued with them for six months, they changed the promo to remove the words “opening deposit” and allow 30 days to make the opening deposit, a clear requirement I would have met, but they still insisted on claiming that I didn’t make an opening deposit and denying me my bonus based solely on that. MY $5000 deposit was considered a non-opening deposit even though it was the very first deposit and the promo as written had no deadline for making the deposit, 30 days or otherwise. This was all clearly explained to BMO by me numerous times on phone and in writing, but they still refused to pay.
I signed up for a BMO Account and met all of the terms of the bonus offer, with the exception of my account being open. That’s right. They closed my account just to avoid paying me the bonus. AVOID BMO like the plague and do your business elsewhere. These bonus offers aren’t work the paper they are printed on.
Wow, I’m sorry to hear that happened to you. I typically hear good things about BMO honoring their bonus offers. Hopefully this doesn’t become a trend…
I opened the BMO business checking pursuant to the bonus offer last July. The promo at that time required that the “opening deposit” be $5000 so I explicitly and carefully received guidance from the branch rep named Ruquia that I could accomplish this with an online transfer. They stalled me on getting the account open for a couple weeks until Ruquia gave me the all clear and assured me I could make my first “opening deposit” of $5000 with an ach transfer in to qualify as the opening deposit for the promo. After I did that promptly in two days, and kept the funds there for the 90 days required, they decided to refuse to pay me the promo claiming that my first deposit was not an “opening deposit” but some other kind of deposit. I provided emails and records that showed that I had requested and followed guidance from Ruquia to meet the requirements, and BMO branch managers after pretending to listen to me still refused to get this resolved to pay the promo.
DON’T TRUST their promises.
(I have had no problem getting my promos from other banks)
7/29/16: Phone Rep said — “it’s a * HARD TransUnion pull * — only ‘pre-approved Offers’ get Soft-pull”
FYI, while my FICO is sub 600, I rarely am denied setting up a New Ck’g Acct; I’ve setup 15 or so new Acct’s, in last 18 mo’s. Thus, just I ‘avoid Hard Pull requirements’.
Thanks for the tip Bill!
