Marriott has said that American AAdvantage, Delta SkyMiles, and Avianca LifeMiles will no longer be able to get the 5,000 mile bonus after October 31, 2022.
What’s Changing
There are a lot of airline transfer partners for the Marriott Bonvoy program. Some of these transfer partners are likely your only choice if you want to book an award with points from a program other than Marriott.
At the moment, if you transfer 60,000 points from Marriott to an airline partner, you get an extra 5,000 miles (including American Airlines AAdvantage). So, you would get 25,000 American miles if you gave 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to AAdvantage (an effective transfer ratio of 2.4:1). But as of October 31, Marriott will no longer offer the transfer bonus. Then the effective transfer ratio will go down to 3:1.
The 5,000-mile bonus for transferring 60,000 points to Avianca LifeMiles and Delta SkyMiles will also end.
Bottom Line
Marriott is telling some of its members about these upcoming changes by email but hasn’t updated its website.
