JetBlue Airways, known for affordable fares, has hub cities across the United States and flies to destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico and South America.

Update 12/8/2022: JetBlue is introducing a new TrueBlue loyalty program with new benefits and options. Read about the announcement here. Much of this post will be outdated.

TrueBlue is JetBlue’s frequent flyer program and is among the best frequent flyer programs for earning & redeeming points/miles here. Points are based on how much money you spend, rather than you many miles you’ve flown. Although TrueBlue points hold decent value and never expire, there aren’t too many options when it comes time to redeem them.

But if you frequently fly with JetBlue, joining TrueBlue is a no-brainer. Keep reading for everything you need to know about this airline loyalty program.

SOUTHWEST RAPID REWARDSยฎ PREMIER CREDIT CARD

Earn 75,000 points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. We value each Southwest point at an average 1.5 cents a piece, or $750 for the 50,000 points. The best value will be redemption for flights. As with most other airline rewards cards, point value can vary a lot depending on flight time, destination, etc.

You’ll also get 6,000 bonus points after your Cardmember anniversary.

Earn 3 points for every $1 spent on Southwest Airline purchases. Also, earn 2 points for every $1 spent on local transit and commuting, including rideshare, and on internet, cable, phone services, and select streaming. You’ll get 1 point for every $1 on all other purchases. You’ll get 1 point for every $1 on all other purchases.

There are no foreign transaction fees with this card. Unfortunately, the $99 annual fee isn’t waived for the first year.

TrueBlue Elite Status

When you enroll for TrueBlue, you get a basic membership. Earning enough base flight points or flying enough segments will get you elite status, which TrueBlue calls, “Mosaic.” There are two ways to qualify:

Method 112,000 base flight points + 30 segments in one calendar year.
Method 215,000 base flight points in one calendar year.

In response to the situation affecting the travel industry in 2020, JetBlue is temporarily reducing the threshold to qualify for this elite status by 50%. For the rest of 2020, you can qualify with 7,500 points in a calendar year or 6,000 points + 15 segments. Additionally, those reaching Mosaic status will get to keep their travel perks through the end of 2021.

Base flight points are earned at 3x for every dollar you spend on JetBlue flights. Unfortunately, bonus points do not count as base points. So, you’ll need to spend $4,000 on airfare to earn 12,000 base points, and $5,000 to earn 15,000 base points.

You can also earn TrueBlue Mosaic by spending $50,000 in a calendar year
on the JetBlue Plus or JetBlue Business Card.

TrueBlue Mosaic Benefits

Once you qualify for elite status, you’ll receive 15,000 bonus TrueBlue points. Mosaic members also enjoy:

  • 3x points bonus
  • Waived change & cancellation fees
  • First 2 checked bags free
  • Discounted seat upgrade awards
  • Expedited airport security
  • Early boarding
  • Complimentary alcoholic beverages onboard
  • 24/7 dedicated customer service line

Keep up with the many perks as a Mosaic member through the TrueBlue website.

Earning TrueBlue Points

There are plenty of ways to earn TrueBlue points. Flying JetBlue, using credit cards, earning badges, and more. Let’s take a closer look at all the ways you can rack up on points.

You can purchase points, but we don’t recommend it. You’ll be paying much more than they’re worth, more than double and sometimes triple their value.

Redeeming TrueBlue Points

One of the shining features of the TrueBlue program is that its points never expire. So you can take your time earning and burning them as you please. We have some suggestions through our guide to The Best Ways to Redeem JetBlue TrueBlue Points.

On average, we value each TrueBlue point to be worth $0.013. That number will fluctuate, depending on how you use your points.

AWARD FLIGHTSPARTNER FLIGHTSSEAT UPGRADESJETBLUE VACATIONS

Use your TrueBlue points for one-way or roundtrip awards. The program does not have any award charts, so pricing depends on the flight’s date, cash price and other factors.

TrueBlue award flights do not have any blackout dates, so any ticket that’s up for sale in cash can also be purchased with points.

Although you can earn points with a number of airline partners, you can only book award travel with one: Hawaiian Airlines. Award pricing is based on the cash price of the ticket.

In general, your TrueBlue points won’t be worth much when redeemed this way. Plus, you’ll have to call JetBlue to check for availability and pricing. There’s no option to view this information online.

To upgrade to Even More Space seats using TrueBlue points, you’ll need to have Mosaic status. These upgraded seats typically have the most legroom when compared to other domestic carriers’ seats with extra leg space. Award pricing depends on the cash price of the seat, excluding the cost of the ticket.

You can also use your TrueBlue points to pay for the air portion of your vacation package using JetBlue Vacations.

TrueBlue Tips & Tricks

GOOD REDEMPTIONSPOINTS POOLING

Unlike other frequent flyer programs, there’s no really “bad” way to redeem your points. Any option you have will give you at least $0.01 per TrueBlue point. So you’ll get a decent return no matter how you spend your rewards.

Read our guide to the Best Ways to Redeem JetBlue TrueBlue Points for a comprehensive look at our favorite ways to use your points.

Points Pooling lets you earn, share and burn TrueBlue points with up to seven other members. But before you sign up, make sure you know all the program rules:

  • Members contribute 100% of their points when they join the pool.
  • The Pool Leader must be 21 years or older. There are no other age restrictions.
  • The Pool Leader manages members and assigns who is allowed to use points.
  • The Pool Leader can use points without authorization from another pool member.
  • If a member is removed, no new member can be added for six months.
  • If a member leaves the pool, they only receive the amount of points left in their own account.

Bottom Line

While there are plenty of ways to earn TrueBlue points, redemptions are pretty much restricted to JetBlue-operated flights. If you’re a frequent JetBlue flyer, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Because award pricing is directly related to the ticket’s cash price, you don’t have to think too long and hard to optimize your points value. Also, no matter how you use your rewards, rest assured you’ll get at least a $0.01 value per point. That’s not the best value, but it’s not the worst either.
