Earning EVA Air Miles

FLIGHTSOTHER TRAVELOTHER WAYS

Earn EVA Miles when you fly internationally with EVA Air/UNI Air, as well as with Star Alliance partners. The amount of miles earned for a particular flight depends on region and ticket type or booking class.

Airline partners include:

  • Air Canada
  • Air China
  • Air India
  • Air New Zealand
  • ANA
  • Asiana Airlines
  • Avianca Airlines
  • Bangkok Airways
  • Copa Airlines
  • Hainan Airlines
  • Hong Kong Airlines
  • Juneyao Airline
  • Shandong Airlines
  • Shenzhen Airlines
  • Singapore Airlines
  • Thai Airlines
  • Turkish Airlines
  • United Airlines

You can also earn EVA Air Miles by making travel-related purchases, such as:

  • Rental cars with Alamo, Avis, Hertz, National Car Rental or Rentalcars.com.
  • Hotel stays with IHG, Langham Hospitality Group and more.
  • Hotel booking portals, such as Agoda, Booking, Expedia, Rocketmiles and more.
  • Travel experiences with KLOOK or EverFun Travel.

Rack up on EVA Air Miles when you travel or shop with the Infinity MileageLands partners below:

  • ANA Duty Free Shop
  • Breeze Rewards
  • The Economist
  • Forbes Asia
  • HAPPY GO
  • JD Coin
  • Laithwaites Direct Wines
  • 7-Eleven
  • UUPON

Buying EVA Air Miles is also an option, in multiples of 1,000 and at $40 per 1,000 miles. However, we don’t recommend it unless you have a specific redemption you’re eyeing, and you don’t have enough miles. Otherwise, you’d be spending more than they’re worth.

Earning EVA Air Miles with Credit Cards

One of the easiest ways to earn EVA Air Miles as an American is by transferring your Citi ThankYou Rewards Points or your Capital One Rewards Miles.

CAPITAL ONEยฎ VENTUREยฎ REWARDS CREDIT CARD

The Capital Oneยฎ Ventureยฎ Rewards Credit Card currently earns 100,000 bonus miles when you spend $20,000 on purchases in the first 12 months from account opening. Or if are unable to meet the $20k spending requirement, you can still earn 50,000 bonus miles for spending $3,000 in the first 3 months. These bonus miles are equal to $1000 or $500, respectively, in travel and are easy to redeem as a statement credit towards the cost of your travel purchases. Take advantage of Capital One’s travel partners and these up to 100k miles can be worth around $1400 in value.

This card will earn an ongoing 2 miles for every dollar you spend on all purchases. 100 miles is equal to $1 in travel rewards. If you don’t redeem towards travel purchases, your miles will have less value.

The annual fee is $95.

Card Review

CAPITAL ONEยฎ VENTUREONEยฎ REWARDS CREDIT CARD

The Capital Oneยฎ VentureOneยฎ Rewards Credit Card has an offer for 20,000 bonus miles after you spend $500 on purchases within 3 months. We value these 20k bonus miles at around $280.

This card has no annual fee. The annual fee version of this card is the Capital Oneยฎ Ventureยฎ Rewards Credit Card, with better features.

The VentureOne Rewards card offers unlimited 1.25X miles on all purchases. You can redeem for statement credits for travel and gift cards. Another option is to transfer miles to airline partners. Read more on this here.

Card Review

CITI PRESTIGEยฎ CREDIT CARD

The Citi Prestigeยฎ Card has a 50,000 bonus points offer. Spend $4,000 within 3 months of account opening to qualify. These 50k bonus points are worth $500 in travel.

For the most value out of your points, redeem for flights through Citi, where your bonus will be worth 1.33 cents per point. This is another card that competes in the premium travel category, and the annual fee will signify that at $495.

In effect, this card is only a good option for frequent travelers who can take advantage of the premium benefits : 5X points on air travel & restaurants, 3X points on hotels & cruise lines, $250 Air Travel Credit annually, and free access to 1,300+ airport lounges with Priority Pass Select. For those in this niche market, this card will provide high perceived value.

CITI PREMIERยฎ CARD

The Citi Premierยฎ Card offers a 80,000 ThankYou Points after you make at least $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. These points are worth $800 in gift cards through Citi.

This card offers 3 points for every $1 spent on travel including gas stations, 2 points for every $1 spent at restaurants and on entertainment, and 1 mile for every $1 spent on all other purchases.

The card has an annual fee of $95 that is waived for the first 12 months.

Redeeming EVA Air Miles

EVA Air Miles expire after three years, without notice and regardless of activity. This is an exceptionally harsh policy compared to most other frequent flyer programs which extend the expiration simply by earning or burning miles.

FLIGHTS & UPGRADESOTHER WAYS

Use your EVA Air Miles for flights with EVA Air/UNI Air and Star Alliance partners, starting from 6,750 miles. If you don’t have enough mileage, you can opt for Miles & Cash.

EVA has a zone-based chart, and routing rules are pretty standard:

  • Two stopovers are allowed on a roundtrip award ticket.
  • The turnaround point and stopover cities cannot be in the same country as the origin or destination.
  • Stopovers are not allowed on a one-way ticket.
  • One open jaw segment is allowed, but it must be at the origin, destination or turnaround point.
  • Open jaws between regions are not allowed.
  • If the award ticket contains more than one zone, the zone with the higher mileage requirement will apply.
  • A six-segment maximum is allowed on an award ticket, but there is no MPM restriction.

Or maybe you want to enjoy a more comfortable flight with a cabin class upgrade from 6,000 EVA Air Miles.

Redeem your EVA Air Miles for:

  • EVA Sky Shop purchases
  • Travel e-coupons and hotel vouchers
  • Merchandise, including travel, management, design and magazine subscriptions
  • EVA Flight simulator experience

Infinity MileageLands Best Redemptions

Star Alliance Round-the-World. These massive, multi-stop itineraries provides an extremely valuable way to use your EVA Air Miles – only 180,000 miles for economy, 325,000 miles for business, and 480,000 miles for first class.

Star Alliance within North Asia. This region covers thousands of miles and includes:

  • Guam
  • Japan
  • Micronesia
  • Palau
  • Russian Far East
  • South Korea
  • Marshall Islands
  • Mongolia
  • Saipan

Combine that with EVA’s generous stopover policy, and you can visit three destinations for only 30,000 miles in economy or 50,000 miles in business.

Star Alliance to Hawaii and Central America. Fly roundtrip to Hawaii and two Caribbean islands in business class for 80,000 miles.

Star Alliance within Europe. For 30,000 miles in economy or 55,000 miles in business class, you can see a few different cities in Europe.

Bottom Line

If you live in Taiwan, and you’re a fan of Star Alliance, then it makes sense to join EVA Air Infinity MileageLands. If not, then there are other Star Alliance loyalty programs – like Air Canada Aeroplan – that offer better ways to earn rewards and better ways to redeem them.

forget EVA airlines, it’s a good airline BUT NEVER EVER join their award program, even is gold member you will never be able to get anything for your miles, they will wait list you after booking and leave your whole vacation in limbo as you don’t know if you are cleared or not.
