Wells Fargo customers can choose between two savings accounts, but there aren’t many differences between them.
In line with other big banks, the yields on both accounts are low.
A Wells Fargo Platinum Savings account with a balance of at least $100,000 does give higher returns than the average large brick-and-mortar bank. But online banks still offer much better rates of return.
Wells Fargo has more than 4,700 branches, making it the second-largest bank in the United States after Chase.
While their savings rates aren’t great, they do offer sign up bonuses very often for their checking accounts.

Wells Fargo Bank Savings Account Rates
Wells Fargo has two standard savings accounts: the Wells Fargo Way2Save Savings account and the Platinum Savings account, which has some extra perks.
You can get the Relationship Interest Rate with the Platinum Savings account when it’s linked to an eligible checking account.
To receive the disclosed Relationship Interest Rate/Relationship APY, the eligible account must remain linked to a Prime Checking, Premier Checking or Private Bank Interest Checking account.
Here are the rates at the time of this writing:
Account name | Interest rate | Standard APY | Minimum deposit for APY |
---|---|---|---|
Way2Save Savings | 0.15% | 0.15% | $25 |
Platinum Savings | 0.25% | 0.25% | $25 |
Platinum Savings (Relationship Rate) | 1.00% | 1.01% | $100,000 |
Wells Fargo Savings Rates Compared To Top Nationwide Rates
Wells Fargo’s savings account rates are much lower than what you can get at the best online banks.
Wells Fargo is a big, well-known bank, but many other banks have better rates for saving money.
Some of the best rates are at online-only banks like CIT Bank, Quontic Bank and Axos Bank. Cash management accounts (provided by investing and other non-bank financial institutions) are starting to offer competitive rates as well.
A higher APY can help you save money faster and reach your goals sooner. When there are other options that pay much more, it can be hard to justify putting your savings in an account that only pays 0.01 percent APY.

Wells Fargo’s Other Savings Options
Wells Fargo does offer other ways to grow your money besides a savings account. These include a variety of certificates of deposit (CDs) and individual retirement accounts (IRAs). However, rates will still not be competitive versus online financial institutions.
