In 2014, Walmart launched Walmart2Walmart, a domestic money transfer service, in partnership with Ria. Walmart then took it a step further by introducing Walmart2World, a global money transfer service powered by MoneyGram.
The pricing structure is fixed, the exchange rates are competitive and the delivery of funds usually take only a few minutes.

How It Works
Walmart money transfer services can be grouped into three categories: domestic, international and bill pay.
Walmart2Walmart: Domestic Transfers with Ria
This service powered by Ria lets you send money to family and friends in the United States and Puerto Rico. You’ll have to go to a Walmart to complete the transfer, but you can begin the process by starting the transaction in Mobile Express Money Services within the Walmart app. Recipients must collect their funds at a Walmart location.
Walmart2World: International Transfers with MoneyGram
Send money quickly to any MoneyGram location in over 200 countries. You can initiate the transfer in Mobile Express Money Services within the Walmart app, online from a desktop computer, or at an agent location.
Online Transfer Limit (per transfer) | $10,000 |
Online Transfer Limit (every 30 days) | $10,000 |
If you need to send a bigger amount, you may get higher limits by visiting a Walmart or MoneyGram agent location.
Recipients can receive their Walmart2World transfer a couple of ways:
- Cash pickup at a Walmart or MoneyGram agent location.
- Sent to their bank account.
Walmart Bill Pay
Walmart, again, partnered with MoneyGram to offer bill paying services, like car payment, credit card payment, utilities, taxes, mortgage, rent, healthcare and much more. You can complete this transaction online or in-store.
Online Fees | $1.99 – $12.99 |
In-Store Fees | $0 – $9.99 |
Online Bill Pay Limit | $3,000 every 30 days |
In-Store Bill Pay Limit | May be higher |
Fees & Rates
Fees vary, depending on where you’re sending to, how much, and your payment method. Typically, fees are lower if you pay with a bank account. Fees are slightly higher if you pay with a credit or debit card. To see how much an online transfer will cost, you can estimate fees on their website.
Also remember, on top of transfer fees, you’ll also need to pay for the currency conversion if you’re using the Walmart2World service.
Transfer Speed
Typically, transfers for cash pickup are available within minutes. If you’re sending by bank transfer, it can take as little as a few minutes up until the next day. How quickly it takes depends on banking hours and system availability in the receiving country.
My Impressions
By partnering with Ria and MoneyGram, Walmart has rolled out a competitive money transfer service with domestic and international reach as well as bill paying capabilities. To round out its service, Walmart offers a helpful mobile app and fast transfer speeds.
