You can integrate Shopify with over 100 gateways, including 2Checkout, Amazon Pay, Authorize.net and PayPal. Make sure to check if shoppers will remain on your site to complete checkout, or if they’ll be diverted to the gateway’s site. The former is called “direct” gateway; the latter is referred to as “external” gateway.
You can also opt to go with Shopify Payments, the in-house payment method powered by Stripe and available in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong.

You’ll find that shopping for a Shopify App is much like shopping for a Shopify theme. It’s an organized and informative experience with a bunch of reviews and ratings for each app. There are over 2,000 add-ons to choose from, so you’ll probably be able to find whatever it is you’re looking for. Some are free, while others require a monthly subscription. Make sure you know which features you’ll need to add on before you sign with Shopify. Alternatively, if you want an easy-to-use cart with loads of advanced features out-of-the-box, then I suggest you look into Zoey. Its plans are much more expensive than Shopify, but you won’t have to purchase as many add-ons later.
Shopify offers everything you need to sell across multiple locations via various channels and accept payments while delivering great customer experiences.
- Multi-channels. Sell wherever your customers are, whether its a branded online store, online marketplaces or social media.
- Advanced checkout. Create discount and promo codes and encourage customers to complete their purchase if they abandoned their shopping cart. Shopify will also calculate tax rates for you based on your location and your customer’s location.

With Shopify, there are two types of POS systems to choose from. One that provides an on-the-go POS to the occasional in-person seller, while the other caters to retail stores that support multiple staff members with a more robust solution.

Shopify offers a free 14-day trial with no credit card required. The account will automatically cancel at the end of your fourteen days. If you want to activate it again, you’ll have to purchase a plan. There are no contracts to sign, and the pricing plans are billed month-to-month. However, if you choose to sign onto an annual plan, you’ll be saving 10%. Purchasing two years at a time will save you 20%.

You can contact Shopify support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via email, live chat, or phone.
Before you contact merchant support, you should check out Shopify’s extensive resources online, including the Help Center, YouTube channel, the Academy (free training courses), Encyclopedia, guides, forums, developer docs, webinars, podcasts, blog, and changelog.
Shopify has loads of positive reviews on comment boards and third-party review sites online. However, common complaints include limited functionality, costly add-ons, poor customer service and poor service with Shopify Payments.
My Impressions
I recommend Shopify for eCommerce merchants looking for dependability, ease of use and elegance, especially for those who are on a tight budget and don’t need a ton of advanced functionality.
However, before you sign on the dotted line, I recommend you sign up for the 14-day trial and take Shopify for a test drive.
Square is a good alternative, which is another modern, elegant processor. For a full service direct processor, Chase Payment Solutions could be worth a look.
