The American Express EveryDay Preferred credit card has 15,000 Membership Rewards bonus points as an introductory offer when you spend $1,000 within the first 3 months. I value these 15k points at around $300. It’s not the best bonus available compared to other cards with similar annual fees.
Offers change often for this card, and we’ve seen it range from 15,000 to 25,000 bonus points lately. It depends on their marketing at any given time. Generally, the best offer can be had by going directly to the American Express website.
The Amex Everyday Preferred lets you earn higher rewards at supermarkets and gas stations. It’s a solid option if you spend heavily in these two categories. Rewards are in the form of Membership Rewards points, which are some of the most valuable in the industry.
With a $95 annual fee, there’s no shortage of good rewards card competitors to choose from. We’ll go over several below.
If your credit card usage isn’t much, the Amex EveryDay Card (non-Preferred version) earns decent rewards at supermarkets and has no annual fee.
Amex EveryDay Preferred Card 15,000 Bonus Points Offer
Take advantage of the EveryDay Preferred card’s 15,000 Membership Rewards bonus points offer. My valuation puts these points at around $300 (more on this below).
To qualify, charge at least $1,000 to your card within the first 3 months of opening your account.
Here are some ideas on meeting the spending requirement:
What Are Membership Rewards Points Worth?
Like many other rewards cards, your points’ worth depends on how you use them. On average, one Membership Rewards point is worth up to an average $0.02. That’s an excellent value considering the average across different rewards cards is just $0.01 per point.
When it comes time to redeem your Membership Rewards points, you have a variety of options, including:
|Travel via Amex or Expedia||$0.005 – $0.01 / point|
|Transfer to travel partners||Varies by partner|
|Statement credits||$0.006 / point|
|Merchandise||Varies by retailer|
|Unique experiences||Varies by venue|
|Gift cards||Varies by retailer|
The best way to use your Membership Rewards points is to transfer them to one of 20+ travel partners. This lets you leverage your earned points for higher-class flights with various airlines and routes. Or, premium rooms at higher-tier hotels. This is how you can get up to an average 2 cents per point in value. You’ll need to spend time with different booking scenarios with different partners for this strategy. It can actually be quite fun.
Amex EveryDay Preferred Card Monthly Bonus
Like with the Amex EveryDay credit card, the Preferred version comes with a bonus if you make a certain number of purchases within a billing period. Earn a 50% bonus on points if you make 30 or more purchases during one statement cycle.
With the monthly bonus, you’ll essentially be earning:
- 4.5X points at supermarkets
- 3X points at gas stations
- 1.5X points everywhere else
That’s incredible earning potential. All you have to do is make approximately one purchase with your credit card every day.
Throughout the month, you may need to be conscious of this spending requirement. When given the opportunity, try to make small purchases at different merchants. It could be with a small top-up of gas even when you’re not near empty. Or a quick stop for a candy bar.
Amex EveryDay Preferred card is, as its name suggests, a good everyday credit card. With the 50% monthly bonus, its earning rates are quite good. It’s worth the $95 annual fee if you use your card optimally, especially when you maximize your points with travel partners.
At this annual fee tier, there are plenty of good alternatives to consider. Let’s cover a few below.
