How Topstep Works

If you show you can manage risk and prove that you can make profit with Topstep, then you’ll qualify to trade with Topstep capital on a funded futures trading account. Here’s how it works:

Free 14-Day Practice Account

Start trading with $150,000 on a practice account. No credit card is required. If you feel like you’re ready to enter the Topstep Trading Combine challenge (to qualify for a Funded Trading Account), you are welcomed to skip this step.

Topstep Trading Combine: Step 1

When you enter the Trading Combine, you can take all the time you need to reach the goal. Keep in mind, however, that you have to pay the subscription fee every month (until you meet the target or cancel your subscription):

The rules – profit target, maximum position size, daily loss limit, and the trailing maximum drawdown – will vary, depending on your subscription choice. It is possible to reset the balance and the rules of your account for $99. This reset fee is in addition to your monthly payment.

Should you pass the challenge, the starting balance of your Funded Trading Account will match the subscription amount you chose.

Topstep Trading Combine: Step 2

Once you finish Step 1, you will enter into Step 2 of the Trading Combine. You’ll start again with your chosen starting balance, but the rules will be slightly different. You’ll have fewer contracts and harder rules to achieve the same profit target you met in Step 1.

As in Step 1, you can reset your account as many times as you want, with an additional fee of $99 per reset.

Topstep Funded Account

If you made it this far, congratulations! Topstep will give you a Funded Trading Account to trade with real money. The concession? They’ll keep the first $5,000 in profits, plus 80% of the money you make thereafter.

A funded account lets you have more products to trade with, but you are now responsible for the data fees charged by the exchange:

Withdrawals can be made at any time, but it will take about seven business days to process. Payouts of $500 or higher do not incur any wire fees. Payouts less then $500 will have a $50 wire fee.
