The Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards Visa credit card from Bank of America has a $200 cash bonus introductory offer. Although not the best bonus out there, it’s a good one considering the card doesn’t cost anything to carry.
The Susan G. Komen credit card is designed for consumers who want to earn rewards while contributing to breast cancer research and awareness. Thus far, the organization has received more than $9.5 million from Bank of America since the start of their partnership in 2009.
Like the Bank of America Cash Rewards credit card, the Susan G. Komen card gives you 2% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs. You’ll get 3% cash back in your category of choice from the following:
- Online shopping
- Drug stores
- Home improvement/furnishings
Both cards also offer attractive relationship bonuses for BoA Preferred Rewards clients.

*Bank of America also offers bonuses on their Checking, Savings and Business accounts. See those offers here.
Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards Visa $200 Bonus Cash
Take advantage of the Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards Visa credit card’s introductory offer: $200 bonus cash posted to your rewards balance. To qualify, charge at least $1,000 to your card within the first 90 days of opening your account.
Here are some ideas on meeting the spending requirement.
Earning Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards
If you’re a frugal spender, the Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards Visa has the potential for valuable rewards, but its rewards structure is complicated.
The highest rewards rate of 3% cash back will be in the category of your choice. You can select one from the following six options:
- Online shopping
- Home improvement and furnishings
If you don’t choose a category, the default 3% category is gas. The 2% category includes purchases at grocery stores and wholesale clubs. And you’ll earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases.
The 2% and 3% rates are capped and only apply to the first $2,500 in combined spending every quarter. Beyond that threshold, the rewards rate falls back to 1% on every purchase.
If your spending habits change, you’re welcome to update your choice category for future purchases once a month using the mobile banking app or the banking website.
BoA Preferred Rewards Members Bonus
Enroll in Bank of America Preferred Rewards and enjoy a 25% to 75% rewards boost on every purchase. For example, a $100 purchase that earns 3% ($3.00) will actually earn $3.75, $4.50 or $5.25 based on your tier at the time the purchase posts to your account.
To qualify for the Preferred Rewards program, you must:
- Have an active BoA personal checking account or an Advantage Banking account, and
- Maintain a 3-month average combined balance in your BoA accounts and/or your Merrill Edge and Merrill Lynch investment accounts.
|Tier||Qualifying Combined Balance|

Enrolled Preferred Rewards clients receive a bonus of 25% for the Gold tier, 50% for the Platinum tier or 75% for the Platinum Honors tier.
Redeeming Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards
Redeem your cash rewards for any amount at any time for:
- Statement credits
- Deposits made directly into a BoA checking or savings account
- Credits to eligible Merrill Lynch or Merrill Edge accounts
You may set up automatic redemptions into an eligible Bank of America, Merrill Lynch or Merrill Edge account, starting at $25.
Susan G. Komen Foundation Support
If you keep your Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards Visa credit card open for at least 90 days, and you use it to make one transaction, BoA will donate $3 to the foundation. On top of that, the organization gets 0.08% of all retail purchases charged to the card. Plus $3 every time you renew your account, as long as it doesn’t have a zero balance.
Bank of America vows to give $3 million to the Susan G. Komen Foundation via its credit card and checking program from June 2015 to December 2020.
There aren’t many no-annual-fee cards that offer a $200 welcome bonus. Nor are there many cash back credit cards that let you choose your own 3% bonus category every month. With broadly-defined ones like online shopping, you should find it easy to maximize your 3% bonus rewards.
Those that qualify for the Preferred Rewards program can boost their rewards rate from the standard 3% all the way to 5.25% by keeping large balances with Bank of America or Merrill Lynch.
But don’t forget about the catch. There’s a relatively low ceiling on the rewards you can earn at the combined 3% and 2% rates. Because of this limit, the Susan G. Komen card may not be a good pick for big spenders.
If you want bigger rewards for your high spending, you have plenty of other options.
