Looking for the best TurboTax promotions and discounts for the 2025 tax year (filed in 2026)? You’re in the right place.
TurboTax has quietly rolled out one of its best offers in years: for a limited time, a licensed tax expert can file both your federal and state returns for a flat $150, regardless of complexity — as long as you’re new to TurboTax Expert Full Service and file by February 28, 2026.
Below, I’ll break down current TurboTax deals, compare DIY vs Expert pricing, explain who qualifies, and show you how to get the lowest possible price based on your tax situation.
TurboTax Deal Updates
- Updated January 2026: TurboTax Expert Full Service is offering a $150 flat-fee for federal + state returns if you did not use Full Service last year and file by 2/28/2026.
- New for 2026: Expert Full Service now covers W-2s, investments, crypto, and self-employment at the same flat price.
- Free Edition remains available for simple Form 1040 filers (~37% qualify).
- Amazon physical software deals are now less competitive than TurboTax’s direct expert pricing for most users.
I use TurboTax for both my Business and Personal tax returns, and have been doing so ever since I got into the job market as a professional. You get to do your taxes from the comfort of your own home and have the ability to send everything in electronically.
Years ago I decided to go through a professional CPA just to see if there were any advantages for doing so. Not only did I spend 8X more money than I would have if I had just bought TurboTax again, I received no advice and no “secret” deductions or anything to make it worth it.
Furthermore, I had to gather and organize all my tax information in detail before submitting the information to the tax firm. Basically, I did all the same work I would have had to do if I had used TurboTax again. Seems like they simply took all the info I organized and plugged it into a tax software similar (and likely inferior) to TurboTax. Obviously everyone’s tax situation is different, but for me it was really a letdown.
Normally, importing all your previous year’s tax information into TurboTax is a breeze (had I used TurboTax), but for the following year after using the outside firm I had to manually enter that in also. Lesson learned.
I’m sticking with TurboTax from now on.

I originally posted this at DoctorOfCredit, but I’ll add it here in case anyone finds it useful:
For those who prefer FREE (and open source), check out the OPEN TAX SOLVER project. It provides automated U.S. federal and several state returns in a simple program, and has been getting better every year. You get all the most common forms, which populate your data in pdf for you. You have to mail the returns, though, or you could copy everything to one of those online sites and submit. If they don’t have your state or a particular form you need, try emailing the developers/CPAs; they’re very responsive to special requests. If the current year’s package isn’t available yet, check out last year’s to see how you like it. The program is also useful for running various future tax scenarios. By all means, donate to the project if you want to help them continue.
Available for LINUX, MacOS, and Windows. Your data remains offline on your own computer.
The Ameritrade Turbotax discount is a scam. Because of the discount, I decided to try Turbotax this year. I entered Turbotax from the Ameritrade link and signed up. When I went back, I did not use the Ameritrade link because I assumed I was already signed up with the discount. After I filled out my tax information, Turbotax tried to charge me $79.99 for Premier with NO DISCOUNT. I tried signing in from Ameritrade again, and that did not help. Customer service could not help either.
So I have switched back to TaxAct. They charge reasonable rates, and they do not try to rip you off with bogus discounts. TaxAct imports are not quite as good as Turbotax, but the 15 extra minutes it takes me to do some extra manual entry is not worth the ridiculous premium that Turbotax charges.
