How Hungryroot Works
Hungryroot is a food delivery service that ships high-quality groceries to your door. Instead of the standard meal kits, the company provides ingredients that can be combined a variety of ways to create different dishes. Only two to four items – for example, a bag of stir-fry vegetables, a tub of peanut sauce, and a pouch of rice – go together for a quick and easy meal. Here’s how it works:
Hungryroot Options
Hungryroot recommends recipes every week, but you can also shop the groceries section and select items a la carte. Ingredients are meant to provide endless mix-and-match options, so your meals are extremely customizable. Choose from:
- Fresh Produce
- Meat & Seafood
- Plant-Based Proteins
- Grains & Pastas
- Sauces, Dressings & Dips
- Bread & Bakery
- Pantry
- Ready To Eat
- Dairy & Eggs
- Beverages
- Snacks
- Sweets
Every ingredient comes with nutritional information, cooking instructions and recommended pairings.
Recipes fall under categories (veggie noodles, flatbreads, stir-fries, pasta, grain bowls, market plates, salads, wraps, snacks, sweets and breakfast) and are built with a combination of components (base, sauce, protein and vegetables).
The ingredients or meals you get to choose from depends on which plan you subscribed to, which determines how many credits you have to spend. The credit “cost” of ingredients vary, for example meats often require more credits than vegetables. Say you deleted a meal worth seven credits. You can then select a meal or combination of ingredients that cost the same or less in credits. There’s no way to buy more credits if you go over the limit. So, to add more ingredients to your delivery, you have to upgrade to the next plan.
If you have any allergies or intolerances, set your food preferences to peanut-free, tree nut-free, dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free, vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or gluten-free. You can also select a “never” rating for items you won’t ever order.
Hungryroot Delivery
Hungryroot ships throughout the continental United States. Deliveries are available anytime between 9am and 9pm, and orders are packed in insulated, curbside-recyclable cardboard boxes with ice packs.
Meal Preparation
All recipes can be found on the site. They’re simple and short. More often than not, you’ll need to briefly heat or sauté ingredients, then combine with a sauce. That’s it! It shouldn’t take any more than 20 minutes, max.
