Google Pay: Features
Google Pay lets you enjoy all the benefits of your cards, without the cards. That means you’ll still get cash back or reward points and fraud protection, but without having to physically pull out your credit card. Check out more Google Pay features below.
- Big Bank Support. All four big banks in the United States – Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo – support Google Pay, as well as a number of smaller banks and credit unions. What’s more, some banks are now installing cardless ATMs, so it’s easy to make withdrawals using Google Pay.
- Mobile Banking App Integration. Enjoy seamless Google Pay integration with several banking apps around the world, including Bank of America, USAA, Discover, mBank and Bank of New Zealand. Simply add cards to Google Pay from your mobile banking app with just a tap of a button.
- In-App Purchases. When purchasing something in an app that supports the service, a prompt will pop up for Google Pay. There are more than a dozen apps that support in-app purchases, including AirBNB, Lyft, OpenTable, Etsy, Instacart, Fandango, Postmates, Hotel Tonight and Dice.
- Web Purchases. Websites can choose to integrate the Google Pay interface to streamline the checkout process. You can shop on sites like Groupon and 1-800-Flowers and use Google Pay to check out. When you’re ready to purchase, just click “check out,” then hit the “Buy with Google Pay” button. It’ll open to a payments sheet where you can choose from available cards and shipping addresses linked to your Google account.
- NFC Payment. Google Pay is accepted in over one million stores across the United States that allow NFC payments. The list includes Walgreens, Barney’s New York, Whole Foods, McDonald’s, Toys “R” Us, Gamestop and more.
- PayPal Compatibility. When you register your PayPal account with any one of Google’s services, you can seamlessly access the same account on Google’s other services. For example, if you set up your Google Pay account to pay via PayPal, your PayPal account will automatically become enabled in the Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube and anywhere else that Google offers a payment service.
- Rewards & Loyalty. Because Google Pay is meant to be the mobile version of your wallet, it has expanded to include all those other cards you usually carry around with you, like gift and loyalty cards. Google Pay is the first mobile wallet to deeply integrate with Uber’s Payment Rewards program. Balance Rewards members with Walgreens can also apply their loyalty account at checkout via Google Pay.
- Boarding Passes & Tickets. Going along the lines of having everything in your mobile wallet, Google Pay also lets you store mobile boarding passes and event tickets in its app. Partnered companies include Southwest Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Eventbrite, Ticketmaster and FortessGB.
- If you want to store your passes or tickets in Google Pay, simply click on the “Send ticket to my phone” option from the participating website. To access your tickets, click on the Passes tab in your Google Pay app.
My Impressions
Google Pay works great as an NFC-payment app. The ability to streamline your gift cards and loyalty programs, as well as having your tickets and boarding passes available at your fingertips, add to the functionality of this mobile wallet.

Gpay is not what you think, they won’t cover fraud
My account got hacked and the person sent themselves almost $1,000 out of my google pay account. Google says because it came from inside my account they will not cover the fraud charges. I never even use the service, but since they had my bank info the hacker was able to send himself money from my savings account. Terrible customer service, avoid gpay at all costs because they will not stand behind their customers.
I didn’t see you mention that Google Pay wont do business with someone who is overseas. If someone who is traveling needs to send or receive money, don’t look to Google Pay for help.
