How Fat Llama Works
Need something for a short period of time? Say a tent for a camping weekend, a drill for a DIY project, or a drone for a wedding shoot? You can access the things you need without owning them, by using Fat Llama. Here’s how it works:
- Find the item you need nearby by entering keywords and filtering by location.
- Send a request to the owner for the dates you’d like to rent the item. Your booking is only confirmed when the owner accepts your request.
- Pay for the rental upfront, via Fat Llama.
- Use the chat function to set up a date and time to pick up the item and ask any questions you might have.
- Enjoy the rental.
- Return the item to the owner.
Before you can book a rental, you’ll need to go through verification, which requires up to three forms of identification.
Fat Llama Fees
Fat Llama does not charge a subscription fee to use their platform, but they do impose a 25% service fee on all transactions, from the owner and the borrower. That means the borrower has to pay $125, and the owner earns $75, for an item that goes for $100. There is a minimum service fee of $5 on borrower transactions.
Bottom Line
For pretty much anything you need, but don’t want to buy, you can find it within your local community, on the Fat Llama peer-to-peer rental marketplace.
