A good web browser is one that’s fast and secure. While Google Chrome is the most popular browser worldwide, it’s not the fastest nor the most secure on the market. Chrome knows what I do on a daily basis down to the finest detail – my location, my app usage, my YouTube habits, etc. – and uses this information to “make ads relevant.” I’ve been reluctant to jump ship because of Chrome’s extensions, compatibility and syncing. That is, until I found Brave.
Brave redefines the browsing experience by blocking websites from tracking you and rewarding you with crypto for watching ads. Let’s dive deeper into Brave and all of its features below.
Brave Browser Features
Brave is just like your run-of-the-mill browser. It lets you navigate to websites, run web apps and display online content. Like its competition, Brave is free to download and use, and remembers login information.
However, unlike standard browsers, Brave has a strong anti-ad stance. By eliminating ads and ad trackers, it’s able to provide the speed and privacy that other browsers simply cannot compete with. Brave can load pages twice as fast as Chrome and Firefox on a desktop. Via mobile, the speed jumps to eight times faster than Chrome or Safari.
Without ad trackers, advertisers cannot identify and follow you, so Brave users are more anonymous. Plus, Brave does not collect or store any user data on its servers, nor will the company sell any of your personal information.
Let’s cover Brave’s features in more detail below:
Brave blocks ads automatically, protecting your device from malware and extensive advertiser tracking without the use of a third-party ad blocker program. And, since Brave does not have access to your identifiable data, it can’t be traced back to your device.
That said, you’ll still see ads within Google’s (or any search engine you choose) search results.
Privacy With Tor
Other browsers come with a “private mode,” but this will only hide your history from other people using your browser. Brave has partnered with Tor to hide your history and mask your location by routing your browsing through multiple servers before it gets to the destination. For increased anonymity, these connections are encrypted.
Brave is built on the Chromium platform, which is what Chrome, Vivaldi and Opera uses, so most Chrome extensions, like Google Docs Offline, will work on Brave. This feature makes for an easy browser swap.
Advertising income, however, is essential in the browser business. And Brave has come up with a genius solution to this problem – Brave Rewards. Instead of tempting you to click on random ads, the browser anonymously calculates how much attention you give to the sites you visit. Once a month, Brave will compensate those sites.
And there’s another twist.
Brave Rewards isn’t based on the US Dollar. It uses a cryptocurrency (find bitcoin & other crypto promos here) called Basic Attention Token (BAT) on the Ethereum blockchain. The reason? Blockchain digital advertising provides a decentralized and transparent digital ad exchange. As its name implies the value of the token is determined by user attention.
Brave users who agree to receive privacy-respecting ads will be rewarded with BAT. Every time you click on an ad, you’ll get a part of a BAT. If you see something you like, send the content creator a tip as a thank you. You can even allocate a specified amount to the sites you want to support every month.
According to Brave, a typical, engaged person who uses their browser can expect to earn about $5 in BAT every month.
Brave could very well be the next great browser. It features top-of-the-line speed and privacy, and offers BAT revenue just for browsing. Download Brave, test it out, and see for yourself what all the fuss is about.
