Best Travel Credit Cards For Families
These are the cards that stand out for their earning structure and benefits, which are particularly family-friendly:
Let’s go into more detail below:
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card rewards you with flexible Chase Ultimate Rewards points. These points can be used for travel via the Ultimate Rewards portal at a fixed value. Or, you can transfer them to a number of airline and hotel loyalty programs.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is very much like its Sapphire Preferred sibling, but made for bigger spenders and more frequent travelers. It comes with a hefty annual fee, but it also comes with better earning potential and a slew of VIP perks, including $300 in travel credit every year and membership to Priority Pass Select.
Southwest Airlines is great for families because each person gets two free checked bags on all Southwest flights and there are no fees for flight changes. The Rapid Rewards program also lets you book any available seat on the plane with your points. There are no saver fares, redemption tiers and etc. to deal with.
If your family enjoys flying with the carrier, it makes sense to open a cobranded Southwest card. The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card, featured on our “best of” list, is a low-cost card that’s better suited for infrequent Southwest flyers. Those that fly quite often with the carrier should go with the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card instead.
The American Express® Gold Card is a good fit for families who spend a big chunk of their budget on groceries and dining at restaurants. You’ll earn 4x points at U.S. supermarkets and restaurants.
Membership Rewards points are very flexible, giving your family plenty of travel options without having to commit to an airline or hotel program. These points are transferable to other programs, so they have high value potential.
