Due to the winter travel disruptions, Southwest has announced customers with flights booked through 1/2/23 are able to rebook or request a refund without paying any additional fees. Also, customers who were affected by the chaos from thousands of canceled flights will be reimbursed for “reasonable expenses.”
Update 12/31/22: Southwest also announced the following:
- Companion passes will be extended until January 2023 (for those that were due to expire in December 2022)
- Extra month to qualify for elite status. Flights taken in January will count towards the 2022 and 2023 elite qualifying years.
Details
Southwest Airlines announced all customers traveling through January 2, 2023 may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 30 days of your original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with their accommodation procedures) without incurring any additional fees. However, be aware that holiday availability is limited.
Also through January 2, 2023, you have the option of asking for a refund of your unused ticket to the original source of payment if your flight is canceled or significantly delayed.
Go to their travel disruption information page to submit your rebooking or request a refund.
For customers impacted by a flight cancellation or significant flight delay during this period, you can email receipts to Southwest via Email Us for reasonable expenses for lodging, meals, and other transportation costs (such as car rentals or tickets on another airline).
